Mutchmor, James Ralph
James Ralph Mutchmor, Presbyterian and United Church minister (b at Providence Bay, Manitoulin I, Ont 22 Aug 1892; d at Toronto 17 May 1980). After serving in an artillery battery in WWI, he resumed his theological studies and from 1920 to 1936 served churches in Winnipeg's north end. In 1937 he moved to Toronto as associate secretary, and from 1938 to 1963 as secretary, of the Board of Evangelism and Social Service and crusaded against drinking, gambling and social immorality. He was elected moderator of the United Church in 1962. A humanitarian and an able administrator, he led several delegations to the government demanding improved social conditions. He published his memoirs, entitled Mutchmor, in 1965.
