Kim Stockwood. Singer, songwriter, guitarist, television and radio personality, b St. John's, NL, 11 Nov 1965; BA (Memorial) 1988. Kim Stockwood began performing on the St. John's pub circuit in 1990, covering primarily country songs by artists such as Patsy Cline, Dwight Yoakam, and Elvis Presley. In 1992 she left her position as a copywriter at a local advertising agency and moved to Toronto to focus exclusively on music. Two months later Stockwood landed a recording contract with EMI Music Canada and began compiling material for a debut album.

Solo Career

Stockwood's debut album, Bonavista (EMI Music Canada 0-7243-852356-2-7), was released in 1995 and fused elements of country, pop, and rock. While the album initially received modest attention, the release of Stockwood's hit single "Jerk," and its subsequent addition to the re-issued version of Bonavista in 1996, earned her a national and international profile. The success of the repackaged album garnered Stockwood a US record deal with Curb Warner, a 1996 Juno Award nomination for best new artist, and a SOCAN award for pop song of the year ("Enough Love") in 1997. Stockwood's second release, 12 Years Old (1999, EMI Music Canada 7243 8 57177 2 7), was a more stylistically cohesive, pop-oriented album. Its title track, "12 Years Old," was awarded single of the year at the 2000 East Coast Music Awards, where Stockwood was also named pop/rock artist of the year.

Shaye

Stockwood formed the pop trio Shaye in 2002 along with Canadian singer-songwriters Damhnait Doyle and Tara MacLean. The group's debut album, The Bridge (2003, EMI Music Canada 7 2435 93540 2 6), received a Juno nomination for single of the year ("Happy Baby") in 2004 and a SOCAN pop music award in 2005. Tara MacLean left the group in 2007 after the release of their second album, Lake of Fire (2006 EMI Music Canada 09463 52929 2 3); Stockwood and Doyle parted ways in 2009.

Radio and Television

Stockwood's vivacious personality and affable nature have brought her success as a radio and television host. Before moving to Toronto, Stockwood hosted the Q-93 "Morning Show" in St. John's, NL. She has appeared as a guest host on numerous radio stations and television programs, including Montreal stations Mix 96 and CHOM FM, Edmonton's Power 92, and Halifax's C100, as well as on "Canada AM" and "Entertainment Tonight Canada." Stockwood hosted the "Morning Show" on Toronto's EZ Rock from 2008 to 2009. She has also hosted "Saturday Night at the Junos," the "CTV Junos Red Carpet," the Canadian Radio Music Awards, and the East Coast Music Awards.
