Marjorie Wilkins Campbell, author (b at London, Eng 1901; d at Toronto 23 Nov 1986). Campbell's career as a writer of historical fiction reflects her affinity for the early Canadians, developed from childhood after her family immigrated to the Saskatchewan Qu'Appelle Valley in 1904.

Marjorie Wilkins Campbell, author (b at London, Eng 1901; d at Toronto 23 Nov 1986). Campbell's career as a writer of historical fiction reflects her affinity for the early Canadians, developed from childhood after her family immigrated to the Saskatchewan Qu'Appelle Valley in 1904. The recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship (1959) and a Member of the Order of Canada (1978), she won a Governor General's Award in nonfiction for The Saskatchewan (1950), which introduced her favourite subject, the fur trade, and led to 5 more books, of which The Nor'Westers (1954) won a Governor General's Award in juvenile literature.

Author of 13 novels and biographies, Campbell contributed articles to Saturday Night and Maclean's, edited Magazine Digest and was a consultant to the Ontario government on the restoration of Fort William, a North West Co trading post.
