Michel Dessailliant, dit Richeterre, painter (fl 1701-23). A victim of France's mercantile policy, he was not able to settle permanently in New France and practise his art. This fact is regrettable, since the only work that may be attributed to him with certainty, the portrait of Mère Louise Soumande, dite de Saint-Augustin (1708), shows great skill and sensitivity. Archival documents record that he did other portraits, but there is no proof that he painted the ex-votos now in Ste-Anne Beaupré that are attributed to him.
