That was quite a vicious time. I lost a lot of good friends during the war.
That was quite a vicious time. I lost a lot of good friends during the war. As a piper, we used to carry rifles but they were slung over our shoulder because we were pipers, we played the pipes to play the men and we lost a lot of the men that way. But we managed to survive and we always kept the band built up, so we had people. And I was wounded in 1944 I think. I was quite badly wounded. They didn’t think I was going to live but they don’t know the Scots, they all last, I’m still here.
