My name is Edwin Byard Hill, and the material I brought to you at the Lord Nelson Hotel in Halifax was to do with my great grandfather, who I am named after. His name was Edwin Byard Hill. He served in the 43rd Battalion, Canadian Infantry, and the brackets around that read "(Manitoba Regiment)." He was killed on the 8th of August 1918 in France.

This paper I'm digging out now is an official OHMS thing, which I still have the original packaging for, and it's called "Final Verification Record From the Imperial War Graves Commission, 82 Baker St., London, W1," and in it, it says that he is buried Mexieres Communal Cemetery, Extension 4, Plot I, Row B, Grave 16. This came to my grandmother – there's nothing else on it – in an official round envelope, which I still have, as a matter of fact.

The other piece of paper that I have is a very small piece about 10" by 5", and it says, with a headline of Buckingham Palace, "I join with my grateful people in sending you this memorial of a brave life given for others in the Great War. Signed, George, Rex."
