Newbridge Networks Corporation

Newbridge Networks is a world leader in the design and manufacture of digital networking equipment. Since the founding of Newbridge in 1986 by Terence H. MATTHEWS, Newbridge has achieved consistent growth, providing state-of-the-art networking systems to thousands of large and small customers in over 100 countries. Public and private network operators worldwide use Newbridge products to provide fully managed networks for efficient transmission of voice, data, image and video traffic.

The company's "end to end" networking solutions incorporate leading standards-based technologies, all managed by a single software network management system. Newbridge Networks is a recognized market leader in ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) and frame relay equipment. The Newbridge MainStreet products range from high-capacity ATM Backbone multiplexors - used in large corporate and public networks - to low-capacity feeder devices for linking smaller and remote offices. Newbridge is also the world's largest supplier of TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) systems primarily due to their innovation in integrating voice, ISDN, cellular voice and data multiplexing. The Newbridge 36150 and 36170 MainStreet ATMnet Access and Backbone Switches deliver fully integrated access, switching and control of combined data, image, voice and video communications. In 1995 Newbridge acquired a controlling 51% interest in network access provider Advanced Computer Communications as well as an Argentine distributor, Transistemas S.A. Other Newbridge affiliates including CrossKeys, Timestep, West End, Televitesse and Castleton are significant partners in developing new complementary technologies. In March 1996, Newbridge announced an alliance with Siemens of Germany to produce complete end-to-end broadband solutions for carrier networks.

Newbridge operates in 75 countries worldwide from its headquarters in Kanata, Ont, and employs some 3000 people, one-third of whom are involved in research and development. Revenues in 1995 exceeded $800 million.
