Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation

Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation is located at Nelson House, Manitoba, some 800 km north of Winnipeg. The Cree name of the band, Nisichawayasihk, means “where three rivers meet”. While smaller development areas are located at Dog Point and R.C. Mission Point, the majority of the community as well as the governance centre and businesses are located at Nelson House at the north end of Footprint Lake. The Cree language spoken by the community is a regional dialect specific to the Nisichawayasihk people. A distinct cultural aspect of the Nisichawayasihk people is Ethinesewin — the traditional knowledge, wisdom and teachings of Nisichawayasihk Nehethowuk.

As of February 2022, the registered population of Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation was 5,440 with the majority of the members living on-reserve (3,033).
