Nuance

Nuance. Quebec rock group from the Ottawa valley region founded in 1975. It was in 1983, when the singer Sandra Dorion (b Gatineau, Que, 9 Feb 1963) joined the group that Nuance started to become well-known. The group, the other members of which are Denis Lalonde (guitar), Mario Dubé (composer and keyboards), Mario Laniel (bass), and Daniel King (drums), achieved its first success with 'Amour sans romance' in 1985. 'Vivre dans la nuit' followed the next year and sold more than 70,000 copies. These two songs are included on the LP Vivre dans la nuit (1986, Isba IS-2007) with two other hits, 'Libre' and 'Sans être aimé'. Its second LP, Nuance/Sandra à suivre (Isba IS-2010), recorded in 1987, contains performances of classic popular songs from Quebec. The group nearly folded in the autumn of 1987 when Sandra Dorion threatened to quit. Nuance was also successful with 'Journal intime,' 'L'Amour est un jeu,' 'Volte face,' and 'Prise au piège,' contained in Journal Intime (1988, Isba IS-2014). It won Félix awards for discovery of the year in 1986, as well as for the francophone group and the 45 rpm record with the most sales in 1987.
