Pierre S. Pettigrew, politician (b at Québec City 18 Apr 1951). He earned a BA in philosophy from the U du Québec à Trois-Rivières in 1972, and an MA in the philosophy of international relations from Oxford (Balliol College) in 1976.

Pierre S. Pettigrew, politician (b at Québec City 18 Apr 1951). He earned a BA in philosophy from the U du Québec à Trois-Rivières in 1972, and an MA in the philosophy of international relations from Oxford (Balliol College) in 1976.

Pierre S. Pettigrew held the position of Director of the NATO Assembly Political Committee in Brussels from 1976 to 1978. From 1981 to 1984, he was Foreign Policy Advisor to the Canadian Prime Minister, and from 1985 to 1995, Vice-President of Samson Bélair/Deloitte & Touche (Montréal), acting in the capacity of Executive Advisor in International Business. In 1989, he was awarded the prestigious Prisme Award from the Centre des dirigeants d'entreprises as Quebec manager of the year for large companies. In 1994, he co-chaired the first national forum on International Relations in Canada.

Pierre Pettigrew was elected to office in January 1996, named Minister for International Cooperation and Minister responsible for La Francophonie. He was subsequently Minister of Human Resources Development from October 1996 to July 1999. In August 1999, he held the position of Minister for International Trade, and chaired the Ministerial Meeting on the American Free Trade Area in Toronto in November 1999, and the Working Group on Implementation at the Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization in Seattle, December 1999.

Pierre Pettigrew was elected Member of Parliament in the Montreal riding of Parizeau-Saint-Michel in 1996, then re-elected the following year in the new riding of Parizeau-Saint-Denis.

He is the author of the book The New Politics of Confidence that deals with globalization and the art of governing.
