Roy Daniells

Roy Daniells, professor, poet, critic (b at London, Eng 6 Apr 1902; d at Vancouver 13 Apr 1979). Educated at the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto, Daniells taught for most of his career at UBC, retiring in 1974.

Roy Daniells, professor, poet, critic (b at London, Eng 6 Apr 1902; d at Vancouver 13 Apr 1979). Educated at the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto, Daniells taught for most of his career at UBC, retiring in 1974. He was one of the editors of the Literary History of Canada (1965), and he wrote numerous insightful articles on a wide range of Canadian poetry and fiction. His major critical work was on Milton (1963). His 2 books of poetry, Deeper Into the Forest (1948) and The Chequered Shade (1963), show his mastery of the sonnet form and his sophisticated technical skills.
