Stephen Kondaks. Violist, teacher, b Salonika, Greece, 15 Feb 1919, d Pointe Claire, Québec, 11 Oct 2005, naturalized Canadian 1920. He studied violin 1930-6 with Harold Sumberg at the TCM (RCMT) and 1936-8 with Sascha Jacobsen at the Juilliard School.

Stephen Kondaks. Violist, teacher, b Salonika, Greece, 15 Feb 1919, d Pointe Claire, Québec, 11 Oct 2005, naturalized Canadian 1920. He studied violin 1930-6 with Harold Sumberg at the TCM (RCMT) and 1936-8 with Sascha Jacobsen at the Juilliard School. He then took up the viola, training 1938-9 with Hans Letz at the Juilliard Graduate School. In Montreal he was a member 1940-2 of the McGill String Quartet and principal viola in the McGill Chamber Orchestra. He attended Louis Bailly's courses 1947-51 at the CMM. As soloist as well as chamber and orchestral player he has taken part in numerous radio and TV broadcasts. Beginning in 1963 Kondaks taught and coached with the NYO, and he taught at McGill University from 1967 until his retirement in 1988.
