The Rideau Awards

The annual Rideau Awards were established in 2007 to recognise and promote locally produced English-language professional theatre in Ottawa and Gatineau. In 2008 the awards included categories for French-language professional theatre and in 2009 the awards became fully bilingual.

The name "Rideau" was selected by the initial steering committee from suggestions submitted by members of the theatre community. Lise Ann Johnson, artistic director of the Great Canadian Theatre Company in Ottawa, contributed the final title, a French word meaning "curtain" which also reflects the city's geography, language and heritage.

The awards recognize professional theatre achievements in acting, directing, design, and stage management, and include categories for fringe productions, adaptations, emerging artists and new creations.

A list of nominees and past winners is available at the Rideau Awards' official website.
