Trivedi Vidhya Nandan Persaud, anatomist (b at Pt Mourant, Guyana 19 Feb 1940). Educated at Rostock, E Ger (MD 1965, DSc 1974), and U of W Indies, Kingston, Jamaica (PhD 1970), Persaud has received international acclaim for his research in embryology, teratology and pathology.

Trivedi Vidhya Nandan Persaud, anatomist (b at Pt Mourant, Guyana 19 Feb 1940). Educated at Rostock, E Ger (MD 1965, DSc 1974), and U of W Indies, Kingston, Jamaica (PhD 1970), Persaud has received international acclaim for his research in embryology, teratology and pathology. Persaud arrived at the U of Man in 1972 and was elevated to professor and head of the anatomy department in 1977. He remained dept head until 1993. He has been editor of the West Indian Medical Journal, 1970-73, and president of the Canadian Assn of Anatomists, 1981-83. Author of several medical books, notably Basic Concepts in Teratology and Early History of Human Anatomy, he also has edited Advances in the Study of Birth Defects (7 vols). He has published more than 130 scientific papers.

He was elected a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (London) and of the Royal College of Physicians (Ireland) in 1984. Among his many honours is the Albert Einstein Centennial Medal of the Academy of Sciences in Germany, which he received in 1981.
