Waskahegan Trail

Waskahegan Trail is a regional hiking trail of more than 300 km developed in and around EDMONTON, Alta. It began as a Canadian Centennial project (1967) to promote hiking opportunities in Alberta's capital region. Similar in concept to the long-established BRUCE TRAIL in Ontario, it follows public land as much as possible but has access across private land by landowner agreements and easements. The Waskahegan Trail is a loop with 3 gaps and connects numerous small communities in the Edmonton region with linkages through ELK ISLAND NATIONAL PARK, the Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Grazing, Wildlife and Provincial Recreation Area and Miquelon Lake Provincial Park. The trail passes through picturesque Alberta countryside highlighting urban, prairie and typical aspen parkland ecosystems.
