Randy Boyagoda

Scholar, writer and critic Randy Boyagoda is a professor of American Studies at Ryerson University. He is the author of four books: a scholarly monograph on immigration and modern American literature; a biography of the Canadian-born Catholic priest and neoconservative intellectual, Richard John Neuhaus, and two novels. His first novel, Governor of the Northern Province, was nominated for the ScotiaBank Giller Prize for Fiction. His second novel, Beggar’s Feast, was nominated for IMPAC Dublin Literary Prize, named a New York Times Book Review Editor’s Choice selection, and has been published around the world to critical acclaim. Boyagoda regularly reviews and essays to publications including the New York Times, Financial Times (UK), New Statesman, Wall Street Journal, and First Things. He also frequently appears on CBC Radio, to discuss literature, culture, and current affairs. Born in Oshawa, Ontario, he received his PhD in English from Boston University and now lives in Toronto with his wife and four daughters.
