Marie Wilson
Marie Wilson, CM, ONT, journalist, professor, administrator (born in Petrolia, ON). Marie Wilson had a long and successful career as a journalist in Canada’s North. She created the North’s first daily television news service in 1995 and served as CBC North’s regional director. She later advised the South African Broadcasting Corporation on how to cover South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission. In 2009, she became the lone non-Indigenous commissioner on Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). Wilson has advocated for northern and Indigenous cultures and rights and is married to former Northwest Territories premier Stephen Kakfwi. She has served on the board of directors of CBC/Radio-Canada since 2017.

Martin Short
Martin Hayter Short, CM, comedian, actor (born 26 March 1950 in Hamilton, ON). Martin Short is one of Canada’s most celebrated, versatile and prolific comedians. A prominent cast member of SCTV and Saturday Night Live, he is known for his work in television, film and theatre, and as a performer, author and host. He is the creator of numerous iconic sketch characters, particularly Ed Grimley and Jiminy Glick. He is a member of the Order of Canada and has a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. He has won two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Tony Award, and received the Earle Grey Award at the 1995 Gemini Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 Canadian Screen Awards.

Matthew Perry
Matthew Langford Perry, actor, producer, writer (born 19 August 1969 in Williamstown, Massachusetts; died 28 October 2023 in Los Angeles, California). Matthew Perry was a film and television actor famous for his combination of dry wit and slapstick humour. He was best known for playing Chandler Bing on the hugely successful NBC sitcom Friends (1994–2004). He was nominated for five Primetime Emmy Awards and eight Screen Actors Guild Awards. Perry was candid about his addiction to drugs and alcohol and his struggles with recovery. He died at the age of 54 from the effects of ketamine, which caused him to drown. Five people were charged in connection with his death.

Megan Follows
Megan Elizabeth Laura Diana Follows, actor, director (born 14 March 1968 in Toronto). Megan Follows is best known for starring as Anne Shirley in the hugely popular CBC mini-series Anne of Green Gables (1985) — the highest-rated television drama in Canadian history. Follows won two Gemini Awards for her iconic portrayal of the famous PEI orphan. She has since amassed more than 100 credits in film and television, including a co-starring role in the popular CW series Reign (2013–17), for which she received three Canadian Screen Award nominations. She has also won both a Directors Guild of Canada Award and a Canadian Screen Award for her work as a director.

Mel Hoppenheim
Mel Hoppenheim, CM, entrepreneur, philanthropist (born October 1937 in Montreal, QC; died 27 July 2022 in Montreal). Mel Hoppenheim developed Panavision Canada into the largest provider of film and television services in Canada. He also owned and operated one of the largest privately held film studios in North America. Hoppenheim was instrumental in the development of Canada’s film and television industry, and of Montreal as a major site for international productions. A noted philanthropist, he earned the nickname “Mr. Hollywood North.” He received an honorary Genie Award in 2010 and was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 2015.

Michael Joseph Charles Greyeyes, actor, director, dancer, choreographer, educator (born 4 June 1967 in the Qu’Appelle Valley, SK). Michael Greyeyes is an award-winning Nêhiyaw (Plains Cree) actor from the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation. As of 2023, he has over 50 television and film acting credits to his name. Michael J. Fox (born Michael Andrew Fox), OC, actor, producer, author (born 9 June 1961 Fox in Edmonton, AB). Michael J. Fox is best known for his roles in the Back to the Future trilogy and in the TV series Family Ties and Spin City. The recipient of several Emmy Awards and Golden Globe Awards, he was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Fox, who has Parkinson’s disease, founded the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in 2000. He has received a number of humanitarian awards and honorary degrees and is an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Michael Snow
Michael James Aleck Snow, CC, RCA, artist, filmmaker, musician (born 10 December 1929 in Toronto, ON; died 5 January 2023). Michael Snow was one of Canada’s most acclaimed visual artists and avant garde filmmakers. His work was concerned with redefining the relationships between various media, the acts and interpretations of perception, and the complex interplay of sound, language and meaning. A Companion of the Order of Canada and a Chevalier of France’s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, he was the first recipient of the Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts. He also won a Molson Prize, a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Gershon Iskowitz Prize, among many other honours.

Michel Dumont
Michel Dumont, OQ, actor, artistic director, translator and narrator (born 29 January 1941 in Kénogami [now Saguenay], QC; died 13 August 2020 in Saint-Lambert, QC). As artistic director of the Théâtre Jean-Duceppe for more than 30 years, Michel Dumont was regarded as a leading figure in Quebec theatre. He acted in more than 70 plays, some 15 TV series and a number of films. He won the Prix Gémeaux for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Drama Series three times (1998, 2003, 2013) and was made an Officer of the Ordre national du Québec in 2013.
