Herbert Hollick-Kenyon

Herbert Hollick-Kenyon, aviator (b at London, Eng 17 Apr 1897; d at Vancouver 30 July 1975). He immigrated with his family in 1909 to Ewing's Landing, BC, and joined the Canadian Army in 1914. Twice wounded in France, he was invalided home and in 1917 joined the Royal Flying Corps.

Heritage Minutes

The Heritage Minutes collection is a bilingual series of history-focused public service announcements. Each 60-second short film depicts a significant person, event or story in Canadian history. They are produced by Historica Canada, the not-for-profit organization that also publishes this encyclopedia. First released in 1991, the Heritage Minutes have been shown on television, in cinemas and online. They have become a recognizable part of Canadian culture. The collection currently includes 100 episodes.

Howard Turner Barnes, physicist (b at Woburn, Mass 21 July 1873; d at Burlington, Vt 4 Oct 1950). Graduating from McGill in 1893 in applied sciences, he was initiated into research work by his physics professor Hugh L. Callendar, an authority in electrical precision measurements.

Hubert Reeves, C.C., G.O.Q., astrophysicist, science popularizer, environmental activist (born 13 July 1932 in Montreal, QC; died 13 October 2023 in Paris, France). Over the course of his career, he published numerous books, translated into several languages, and made frequent appearances on radio and television (see also Astrophysics). Reeves is also renowned for his efforts to protect the environment (see also Environmental Movement in Canada).

Huguette Labelle, née Rochon, nursing teacher and administrator (b at Rockland, Ont 15 Apr 1939). She began her career as a general staff nurse at the Ottawa General Hospital. After changing to teaching, she became founding director of the Vanier School of Nursing in Ottawa.
