Ernest Baird (Primary Source)

Ernest Baird flew a full tour as a pilot of an Avro Lancaster bomber with 12 Squadron, Royal Air Force. He flew numerous sorties over Germany, including against Dresden. He also flew a mining mission over a Norwegian fjord. Eugene Katz (Primary Source)

Eugene Katz is from Dzisna, Poland. He and his brother Moishe escaped when the town's nearly 5,000 Jews were massacred by German soldiers in the Second World War. They then joined the Russian Jewish partisans, but were ultimately betrayed by a family friend and Moishe was killed. Flavio Da Silva (Primary Source)

Flavio Da Silva was born in Georgetown, British Guiana, and joined the Royal Air Force in 1941. He received his initial training, but was then selected for additional training to become a meteorologist. He completed his courses at the University of Toronto, and was then sent to the Mediterranean theater.
