Charlotte (Augustine) Cadoret (Sister St-Jean-du-Sacré-Coeur, Congregation of Notre-Dame). Educator, composer, pianist, (Newark, NJ, to Canadian parents, Feb 29, 1908 - Montreal, March 7, 1995). Teaching certificate (Montreal) 1928, B.Mus. (ibid.) 1931, L.Mus. (ibid.) 1941. She studied piano with E. Robert Schmitz; harmony, composition, counterpoint, and orchestration with Claude Champagne; harmony and composition with Rodolphe Mathieu; Gregorian chant with Clément Morin and Jules Martel; and Gregorian chant accompaniment with Eugène Lapierre. She also earned a diploma from the Schola cantorum of Montreal in this discipline. She served (1942-54) as director of the École normale de musique and then (1954-89) as general director of musical studies of the Congregation of Notre-Dame in Montreal. A member (1945-65) of the Comité d'Initiation à la musique of the Quebec Dept. of Public Education, she also played an important role in music education through her contributions to the pedagogical magazine L'École and through the establishment of programs of study. A member of the CFMS (now the CSMT) since 1959, she also served as vice-president (1976-82). She composed choral works, masses, cantatas, songs, folksong arrangements, and a Messe à Notre-Dame for two middle voices and organ (BMI Canada 1950). Among her published art songs are Lorsque je mourrai" (BMI Canada 1951) and A Cradle Song" (G. Schirmer 1944), recorded by Louis Quilico.
