George Carter

George Carter. Organist, composer, b London 26 Jan 1835, d ?. A pupil of Sir John Goss in London, he gave recitals in England, continental Europe, and the USA. He emigrated to Canada ca 1861 and was the organist for nearly 10 years at Christ Church Cathedral in Montreal.

George Carter. Organist, composer, b London 26 Jan 1835, d ?. A pupil of Sir John Goss in London, he gave recitals in England, continental Europe, and the USA. He emigrated to Canada ca 1861 and was the organist for nearly 10 years at Christ Church Cathedral in Montreal. In the 1862-3 season he organized a series of five 'Concerts classiques' of chamber music in Montreal. After his return to England in 1870, he was the organist for several years at Royal Albert Hall. He was the compiler of A Selection of Anthems as Sung in the Cathedrals of Montreal, Toronto and Quebec (John Lovell 1865). His compositions included operas, cantatas, organ works, songs, and miscellaneous pieces.
