Joyce Sullivan

Joyce (Anna) Sullivan (b Solomon). Singer, b Toronto 4 Jul 1929. A pupil of Emmy Heim at the RCMT, she sang 1947-54 with the Leslie Bell Singers and was a mezzo-soprano soloist in various of their concerts and broadcasts, including a 1951 radio performance of Pergolesi's Stabat mater.

Joyce (Anna) Sullivan (b Solomon). Singer, b Toronto 4 Jul 1929. A pupil of Emmy Heim at the RCMT, she sang 1947-54 with the Leslie Bell Singers and was a mezzo-soprano soloist in various of their concerts and broadcasts, including a 1951 radio performance of Pergolesi's Stabat mater. In the early 1950s she was heard in her own CBC radio popular music shows and on Jack Arthur's 'Mr. Showbusiness'. After appearing occasionally 1952-4 and 1956-7 on CBC TV's 'Showcase,' Sullivan co-starred on the same show 1957-9 with Robert Goulet. In 1960 she was the host for CBC radio's 'Talk of the Town'. During the 1960s she was a soloist with the Carl Tapscott Singers, appearing on the LP Great Hymns of All Time. She also recorded Folk Songs of Canada (1956, Hallmark CS-3, with Charles Jordan) and The Songs of Joyce Sullivan (1965, CTL CTLS-069) and is heard on Canadian Folk Songs: A Centennial Collection (9-RCI/RCA CS-100/5-ACM 39, CD). She continued to perform, less frequently, until 1970.
