Les Petits chanteurs de Trois-Rivières

Les Petits chanteurs de Trois-Rivières. Boys' choir, to which a few men's voices are added, founded in 1947 by J.-P. Quinty and J. Dugré, two Rover Scouts of the Comtois clan of Trois-Rivières. In 1966 the choir became a real choir school, thanks to the founding of the École des Petits chanteurs, an establishment especially conceived for it, academically affiliated to the École St-François-d'Assise. Abbé Claude Thompson became its director in 1956. In addition to providing music for the Trois-Rivières Cathedral for 10 months of the year, the choir has given several concerts, notably with the Trois-Rivières Symphony Orchestra (Bach's Magnificat, Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Coronation Mass and the Litanies of the Blessed Sacrament in E Flat) and in the USA (1974, 1975, 1989). In 1986 it participated in the Lamèque International Festival of Baroque Music. It made several tours in Europe (1971, 1980, 1987, 1990) and performed regularly on CBC radio. In 1984 it premiered a cantata for baritone, choir and orchestra by its director, D'âge en âge ô Seigneur tu as été notre refuge. It has made several records, including the Missa de Beata Virgine by Palestrina and some Renaissance motets (1987, SNE 539), Chansons et folklore de France et du Québec (1987, SNE 540) as well as Fauré's Requiem and Messe basse with the participation of the Cap-de-la-Madeleine choir school and the Petits chanteurs du Mont-Royal, directed by Michel Lasserre de Rozel (1988, REM 311096-XCD). A more recent CD (1990, REM 311148-XCD) constitutes, with the preceding one, Fauré's complete religious output.
