Margaret Miller Brown. Pianist, teacher, b Owen Sound, Ont, 22 Apr 1903, d there 15 Feb 1970. Born into a musical family, she studied in her hometown, in Toronto with Frank Welsman and Mona Bates, and in New York with Ernest Hutcheson.

Margaret Miller Brown. Pianist, teacher, b Owen Sound, Ont, 22 Apr 1903, d there 15 Feb 1970. Born into a musical family, she studied in her hometown, in Toronto with Frank Welsman and Mona Bates, and in New York with Ernest Hutcheson. She made her Toronto debut 1 Mar 1927 at the TCM concert hall and her London debut 15 Jun 1936 at Aeolian Hall. Her concert career, which continued into the 1950s, included Canadian tours and appearances with the TSO and in Mona Bates' Ten-Piano Ensemble. With the Promenade Symphony Concerts, Toronto, she gave the Canadian premiere 13 Jun 1940 of Ulric Cole's Divertimento. In 1951 she toured in Europe. She taught 1924-69 at the TCM (RCMT) and for many years at the University of Toronto. Her pupils include Brian Cherney, John Coveart, Anna Drake Dembeck, Sheila Henig, Gordon Macpherson, Clifford Poole, Sydney Young McInnis, Doug Riley, and Clifford von Kuster.
