Désilets, Richard. Composer, b Magog, near Sherbrooke, Que, 24 Oct 1957; B MUS (Montreal) 1984, M MUS composition (Montreal) 1986. He studied at the University of Montreal with Serge Garant and Marcelle Deschênes. He won a CAPAC prize twice (1986 and 1987) for his works Premier quatuor de l'innocence (1986) and Il faut regarder les étoiles (1986), the first prize at the Brock University competition (1986) with Eureka (1982) and a second prize at the CBC National Competition for Young Composers (1986) with Prière pour une infinité (1986). His work La Métamorphose du cri (1984) was premiered at the first national tribune for young composers of the Événements du neuf in 1985. He was composer-in-residence at the Banff SFA (Banff CA) in 1987 and at the COC 1987-8. For the latter, he wrote Zoé (1988), a lyric fable on a text by Kim Élaine Gosselin, performed in 1988. His output includes about 30 works, some of which have been performed at the Événements du neuf, the SMCQ and the Société des concerts alternatifs du Québec, among others. Désilets is a member of the Canadian Electroacoustic Community and an associate of the Canadian Music Centre. In 1991 he was pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Montreal under the direction of Jean Piché.
