Roger Charbonneau. Bassist, teacher, b Montreal 18 May 1908, d there 20 Oct 1964. He studied solfège with J.-J. Goulet and cello with his father, Louis Charbonneau, before taking up the double-bass with, in turn, Léon Wathieu, Warren Bentfield, and, at the CMM, Anselme Fortier of New York 1943-8.

Roger Charbonneau. Bassist, teacher, b Montreal 18 May 1908, d there 20 Oct 1964. He studied solfège with J.-J. Goulet and cello with his father, Louis Charbonneau, before taking up the double-bass with, in turn, Léon Wathieu, Warren Bentfield, and, at the CMM, Anselme Fortier of New York 1943-8. After Fortier's death, he attended classes with Gaston Dufresne of Boston. He taught 1943-64 at the CMM and the CMQ. Roland Desjardins and Renald Saint-Pierre were among his pupils. He was principal double-bass 1953-63 in the MSO and also gave recitals on CBC radio.
