Conseil québécois de la musique

Conseil québécois de la musique; formerly, Association des organismes musicaux du Québec. Non-profit organization incorporated in 1987. Its purpose is to coordinate the activities of member organizations, improve their operations, and promote and defend their interests before public and private institutions. AOMQ comprises musical societies with a professional status; these are active members who may belong to the board of directors and speak on behalf of the organization. Another category of membership, 'friend', is available to individuals and organizations that do not meet the basic requirements for admission: the sponsoring of activities on a permanent basis and an operating budget of $50,000 minimum (although the board has shown flexibility as to the latter criterion). The 15-member board, representing various regions of Quebec, has been chaired by Jean-Claude Picard (1987-8), Denis Langelier (1988-90) and Anne Marie Messier (beginning in 1990). In addition to operating grants from the MACQ, AOMQ receives funding for special projects from the Department of Communications of Canada, the Conseil des arts de la Communauté urbaine de Montréal, and the Commission d'initiative et de développements culturels of the City of Montreal. AOMQ has collaborated with the Coalition du monde des arts and Les Arts et la ville, and it has also been involved with all matters dealing with the advancement of music in Quebec. It publishes a newsletter and a concert schedule, and it produces reports and letters on various topical matters concerning its members.
