Edith Carey

Edith (Marsella) (m Smythe) Carey. Contralto, b Millgrove 31 Jan 1878, d Brockville, Ont, 13 Mar 1941. She was contralto soloist in the early 1900s at St Giles United Church, Hamilton. With her husband, Frederick, she was one of the group of singers that formed the Elgar Choir.

With her husband, Frederick, she was one of the group of singers that formed the Elgar Choir. Her granddaughter Ellen (b Smith, m Wetherill; mezzo-soprano, b Morrisburg, Ont, 1937) studied voice with Bertha Carey Morrow in Hamilton and Jean Létourneau in Edmonton and became a member of the Richard Eaton Singers.
