Lyne Fortin. Soprano, b L'Islet-sur-Mer, Que, 28 Apr 1962; B MUS (Laval) 1985. After studying at Laval University with Louise André, she attended master classes at the Orford Arts Centre with Martial Singher, in Graz, Austria, and with Pierrette Alarie and Léopold Simoneau at the Canada Opera Piccola. She took further lessons with Marlena Malas in New York. She won first prizes at the Quebec Music Competitions in 1984 and at the MSO Concours in 1985. Besides earning the Prix Raoul-Jobin in 1986, she was a winner at the third Pavarotti International Competition in 1988. With the Opéra de Québec she sang Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro (1987), Gilda in Rigoletto (1989), and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte (1991). Her roles with the Opera Lyra have included Micaela in Carmen in 1989, a role she repeated with the New Jersey State Opera in 1991. That same year she sang Norina in Don Pasquale with the Philadelphia Opera. She made her debut with the Opéra de Montréal as Antonia in Les Contes d'Hoffmann in 1990, followed by the title role in The Merry Widow in 1991. Fortin has appeared in concert with the NACO, the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, the MSO, the Violons du Roy and the Orchestre métropolitain. In February 1989 she gave concerts in South America during the visit of Jeanne Sauvé, Canada's Governor General. With the tenor Richard Margison she has recorded Les Grands Duos d'amour de l'opéra français accompanied by the Quebec SO under Simon Streatfeild (1987, CBC SMCD-5072).
