Marcelle Guertin. Gilles Manny, Jean-Jacques Nattiez, Daniel Charles and Étienne Darbellay were among her teachers. From 1973 to 1983, she was mostly active as a performer, notably at the SMCQ and with Gropus 7, of which she was a founding member (1975) and with whom she recorded an LP (see Discography for P. Vaillancourt). Concurrently, she composed (1975-84) musical scores for Radio-Québec programs.

In 1976, she began to teach at the University of Montreal, where she was appointed vice-dean for undergraduate studies in 1988. She also taught at the University of Ottawa and at the UQAM. Chief editor of the French section of CUMR, Marcelle Guertin edited and co-edited respectively two issues of the journal Dérives: 'Musique contemporaine au Québec' (1984), to which she also contributed as a writer, and 'Musiques nouvelles d'Amérique latine' (1985). Subsequently, she published De la lecture à l'audition d'un texte musical, 'une étude des thèmes dans le livre I des Préludes pour piano de Debussy' (Montreal 1990). She has also given lectures in Canada, the USA, Argentina, Switzerland and England.
