National Park
A protected area established under federal legislation to preserve Canada’s natural heritage. Each national park represents a significant natural region identified in the National Parks System Plan.
National Park Reserve
An area designated to become a national park, but whose final boundaries and other terms will only be finalized upon the resolution of an unresolved land claim.
Parks Canada
The federal government agency that administers Canada’s national parks system. It began in 1911 as the Dominion Parks Branch, the world’s first national parks service. It became its own agency in 1998.
