Released in October 1978, the first record featured works by Micheline Coulombe Saint-Marcoux and Bruce Mather, performed by the Quebec Woodwind Quintet. In 1987 the cassette recording of Gilles Tremblay's Vêpres de la Vierge (SNE 541) received a prize from the Canadian Music Council. SNE has recorded on CD beginning in 1987. By 1990 the catalogue numbered some 70 titles including works by Denys Bouliane, Lionel Daunais, Jacques Hétu, Anne Lauber, Michel Longtin, François Morel and André Prévost. Among featured performers are contralto Anna Malenfant, the Petits chanteurs du Mont-Royal, the Orford String Quartet and bass Joseph Rouleau. SNE is funded by the Canada Council, the MACQ, and private companies and donors.
