Arthur Byford (Primary Source)
Arthur Byford was a pilot with No. 426 (Thunderbird) Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force from 1948 to 1951. A Flight Lieutenant then later a Squadron Leader, Byford participated in Operation HAWK, the trans-Atlantic airlift operation in support of United Nations forces during the Korean War.Please be advised that Memory Project primary sources may deal with personal testimony that reflect the speaker’s recollections and interpretations of events. Arthur Franklin (Primary Source)
Dr. Arthur Franklin served as a navigator with No. 418 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force in a de Havilland Mosquito multi-role aircraft, flying over 30 sorties. Due to their experience, he and pilot Harold Lisson were selected to conduct high-risk operations, including dropping supplies to the French Resistance and escorting Avro Lancaster bombers of No. 617 Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF), “The Dambusters,” during Operation CHASTISE (The Dambuster Raid).
