Monte Stout (Primary Source)

Monte Stout joined the RCAF in March 1942 but was then transferred to the Royal Air Force. He initially served as a navigator with RAF Coastal Command, and flew missions along the eastern seaboard. He was then transferred to RAF Transport Command, 45 Group, also known as Ferry Command. Reg Harrison (Primary Source)

Reg Harrison left his family’s farm in Saskatchewan and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941. He became a pilot and flew Halifax then Lancaster bombers with 431 Squadron, RCAF. He flew numerous sorties over Germany, including the Ruhr Valley, and the Netherlands. He also flew as part of the 13-plane sortie over the Falaise Gap in 1944, when Canadian troops were accidentally bombed by allied planes. Ross Baroni (Primary Source)

Ross Baroni initially joined the coastal artillery as a gunner, due to a waiting list to join the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was able to transfer within eighteen months, and trained as an observer at a time when an observer obtained all four skills: navigation, gunnery, wireless operator and bombardier. Baroni was posted to a Pathfinder Squadron, and flew Halifaxes and Lancasters in the UK and in France.
