Arthur "Art" Frederick Brown (Primary Source)
In 2009, The Memory Project interviewed Arthur Brown, a veteran of the Second World War. The following recording (and transcript) is an excerpt from this interview. In 1942, Brown enlisted as an artilleryman in the Canadian Army in Hamilton, Ontario, and completed his training in Orillia, Ontario. He served in Italy, Sicily, and the Netherlands with the 11th Army Field Regiment. In this testimony, Brown discusses various experiences in Europe, including getting hit with shrapnel when a gun he was loading fired prematurely. Brown served in the Canadian military for 32 years and was named to the Order of Military Merit in 1974. He died on 5 February 2010 in Kelowna, British Columbia, at the age of 87.
