Arthur Lockerbie (Primary Source)
In 2011, the Memory Project interviewed Arthur Lockerbie, a veteran of the Second World War. The following recording (and transcript) is an excerpt from this interview. Born on 8 May 1921 in New Brunswick, Lockerbie enlisted in the Merchant Navy in Halifax at the age of 21. He served in the merchant navy from 1942 to 1947 as a wireless operator. In this testimony, Lockerbie recalls his experience on merchant ships during the Battle of the Atlantic, including encounters with enemy submarines. (See also U-Boat Operations in Canadian Waters.)
